Management: What Do You Know?

"To be conscious that you are ignorant of the facts is a great step to knowledge."

Benjamin Disraeli

And I would add, to accept that you are as well.

A side benefit for leaders who readily admit they don't know everything is a willingness on the part of those they lead to teach and help them learn, with the opposite being true for those who don't.

How is your management on this point? What about you?

  1. I think one of the earlier posts made the point that we see problems in others but rarely if ever ourselves.

Unless you really don't like yourself, you probably feel that the world would be a better place if more people thought as you did. Same in business. "If only my boss would do what I suggested."

Well maybe but what if you are wrong?

It's hard to do but I am reviewing me and in the process, not liking all I find. I'm also seeing more good in some co-workers including one in particular who I often conflict with. That sucks but I think I will be better off for having figured that out.

  2. Glad to hear something here has brought about a change in someone; that is the point.
