"Glory lies in the attempt to reach one's goal and not in reaching it."
Mohandas Gandhi
What did our parents tell us; it's not whether you win or lose but that you try.
Well, I'm not so sure all parents who say that, mean it every time, in every situation; however the concept is a good one.
And just as it is in our personal lives so it is in business; if we never try, we never succeed.

And I'm not so sure this is still true, if it ever was, in our "win or die" culture. Maybe elsewhere in the world but not here.
ReplyDeleteAnonymous, are you saying you're not sure this is how it is or how it should be?
ReplyDeleteI think we emphasize winning too much but not to the point that that is the only thing that matters.
I'm saying in the US, it's win or go away in everything from business to sports. I wish it weren't that way but it is.
ReplyDeleteThe old truism about baseball is still true. The very best fail (at bat) 2 out of 3 times with everyone else doing even worse. But they try to do better 100% of the time.
ReplyDeleteIs there anything preventing business people from doing the same?
Do we?
