"Everything that is great and inspiring is created by the individual who can labor in freedom."
Albert Einstein
Being on your own may be the ultimate freedom but it also may be prison due to a lack of funding.
On the other hand, working for someone else usually (but not always) means money is not an issue whereas the freedom to do what you want may not be what you need.
Which is it for you?

I've been both and am not sure which is worse/better. But one thing I have learned is that being free from having to do what others say does not always lead to the right decisions.
ReplyDeleteIsn't there a quote, something like the "tyranny of cooperation protecting the individual from the tyranny of the group"?
ReplyDeleteWhatever that is it reminds me of this topic.
As for me, I am totally independent, and broke because I am.
I've worked in my own companies for the last 23 years and conclude there is no such thing as working alone.
ReplyDeleteYou may be the only one in your company but you work with others (clients, vendors, etc.) and if your good enough, eventually your own employees.
And owning the company does not mean you will always get to do what you want, when you want. Nor should you even wish for that.
Like most things in life, look for balance.
