"In separateness lies the world's great misery, in compassion lies the world's true strength."

We celebrate individualism in business, at least in US business. The rugged, against-all-odds (usually) man triumphing when so many others fail. You typically don't see a lot of compassion in that scenario.
I like a lot of that but not the lack of compassion.
How can we feel for ourselves if we can't also feel for others?

There is no place for compassion in business. It is a zero sum game.
ReplyDeleteZero sum huh? I assume you must be one of the "winners", or no?
ReplyDeleteActually I don't agree, a lot.
Everything I've ever succeeded in, which, humbly, has been considerable, has included the success of others, in part, because of what I did for them in return for what they were doing for me.
Was that compassion on my part and/or theirs? I think so, at least I know it was not a matter of simply using each other just to get what we each wanted.
However even looking at the times I've failed, at least I don't have to look back realizing I had no compassion for those who failed with me.
I don't agree with Anonymous but the other extreme is communism.
