The Theatrics of Business

"I don't necessarily agree with everything I say."

I think this is one of those truths you don't think about that is nonetheless true.

Do you honestly believe and mean everything you say and do, or is some of it said for affect?

How do you keep track of what you mean versus say/do for reaction?

  1. I called a meeting last week with the primary purpose of shocking the troops into action. To do that I threatened much intending to do very little. Most all for show.

That was pretty staged but now you've got me thinking about what else I do along the same lines that isn't planned. Still for show but more accidentally than on purpose.

    Scary!

  2. I think most of us have, at various times, done or said things we know was for shock value. I have.

And at other times we really are feeling the emotion we faked in the past.

But do that too often and you're the boy who cried wolf.
