Decision Making: Based On What We Think Or What We Know?

"Prejudice is opinion without judgment."

Voltaire

Maybe sometimes but there are many observable instances of business judgment based on little more than opinionated prejudice.

Make a decision based on what you think others think, because you think but don't know for certain you know who they are . . . what would you call that?

  1. I believe you or someone else said the following in an earlier post but regardless, it's worth repeating.

Business people are first and foremost people, subject to all things affecting all humans, including prejudice. The only thing that separates the good ones from the bad ones is their ability, or lack thereof, to de-emphasize bad human traits while emphasizing the good ones.

  2. Does it work or not? If it turns out to be a good decision: "forward-thinking", "innovative", "prescient", etc. If not: "narrow-minded", "short-sighted", "prejudicial", or just plain "stupid".
Hopefully, we can minimize our personal quirks enough to end up in the first group more often than the latter.

  3. I agree Julie but honestly speaking for myself, I know I need to work at being the good things and more you site rather than just hoping I will. Human nature is a strong force, both the good and the bad.
