Time Management: That Which We Know or That Which We Don't?

"I fear explanations explanatory of things explained."

Abraham Lincoln

You can count on Abe to get to the heart of things; in this case, using a mere seven words.

Next meeting you're in, take informal notice of how much time is devoted to discussion about things already known and agreed to as opposed to that which isn't. I'll bet, a majority or close to it.

Shouldn't it be the other way around?

  1. Kind of like History Channel documentaries that go over much of the plot already covered when they come back from commercial break.

You need some recap but I've noticed that many in meetings don't appear to understand they're saying what's already been said.

  2. Meetings with an enforced agenda shouldn't have this problem.

Why include anything on the agenda that's already been decided and why talk about anything that isn't on the agenda?

  3. Going back to things already decided is indicative of a lack of confidence.
