"The moment of victory is much too short to live for that and nothing else."
Martina Navratilova
Could all those millions who train for, run, complete but don't win marathons, do so if they didn't enjoy all the training, right up to the moment they cross the finish line?
Martina is telling us to enjoy the process regardless of whether or not we win and since for most of us winning is the exception rather than the rule, I think she's right.
Can you be a good manager if you are only happy when you win?

ReplyDeleteManager?
You can't be a good anything if success is only measured by winning.
I agree Katy but what about the rest of you? Are there not some out there who feel that when it comes to business and sports, winning is everything?
ReplyDeleteAnd then there's the question of how to define "winning." Profit? Sales? The number of people you employ or other things good for society?
ReplyDeleteMost companies have a number of things they say are their goals but you can't do any of them if you don't make money, so in that sense, if making money is "winning", yes it is everything.
agree with paul. it's difficult to answer this question without defining 'winning'.
ReplyDeleteto use a simplistic example...let's say you're pitching a piece of business but ultimately, it's awarded to someone else. technically you didn't 'win'. but let's say that your potential customer was impressed enough with you that you were referred to another company and ultimately won another piece of business. i think this could certainly be considered winning.
