Change Management: Continuing Revolution?

"The most radical revolutionary will become a conservative the day after the revolution."

Hannah Arendt
20th Century German Jewish Political Theorist

Applied to business . . . agents of "what should be" become agents of "what is" once the change they advocate occurs.

How do we prevent this?

Should we?

  1. Revolutions are conducted by those with little or nothing to lose and much or everything to gain.

    It's no different in business.

  2. This blog has made this point many times but it's worth repeating.

It is human nature to get comfortable with "what is", resisting change.

But it is essential that management continually look for new and better ways.

Fail to do so and you will most certainly fail.

  3. Unless you equate "essential" to "do or die", I think this understates the importance of institutionalizing the ability and willingness to accept and manage change.

In fact I can't think of another indicator of management ability that is of greater importance.

But based on your last sentence I am sure you agree.
