Good Enough . . . Isn't

"He who stops being better stops being good."

Oliver Cromwell
17th century English Political and Military Leader

Not to mention great.

Once again an indication that minds much wiser than mine, believe the need to evolve and grow is at the top of the list of things necessary to succeed.

Well at least that's how I see it; what about you?

  1. That we all change is a given, but into what is not.

The best advice I can give is plan your evolution, don't just let it happen to you.

  2. If we continue with the "business as usual" practice - we will be out of that usual business in 3-5 years (no quantitatives, just my gut). I like to quote Adm Grace Murray Hopper when these discussions arise, "The most defeating phrase in the human language is "we've always done it that way". Change is important, but only when there is a compelling reason to change.

when I published a "job magazine" in LA several years ago I coined the phrase "the difference between success and failure is the ability to recognize opportunity" - I think that fell short. Recognize opportunity and be willing to adapt.

  3. We were all pretty complacent and happy with the status quo when things were good. Not so much now are we?

I'm feeling better about the future now than I was 6 months ago but mostly because I am not letting others take me where they think I ought to go.

  4. A lot of people hit a point where they don't want things to change. They'll accept not getting better if they can also count on them not getting worse. Kind of like wanting to leave the table in Vegas with your winnings.

But in life, you do not have that option. You have to stay in the game and because you do, if you expect to stay even, not to mention get ahead, you must continue to improve.
