Employees: The Balance Between Experience and Strength

"If youth only knew; if age only could."

Henri Estienne
Late 15th century French printer

Can you think of a better quote to summarize younger and older workers?

Particularly in these times with many either forced to stay in the work force longer than they had planned, or who are now coming back to rebuild retirement accounts.

Employers want the best of both.

How to get it?

  1. Not all old people "know" just as not all young people "do", but I do understand and agree with the general point.

BTW, I am on the "knowing" side of life.

  2. This is just another thing managers are suppose to manage.

Youth has openness, energy, newer educations while older workers have experience, reason and perspective.

The trick is to get the best from both.

  3. Carl lists six things that either age or youth offers but there is much more and not all are related to age.

It's the manager's job to get the right mix and unfortunately I don't work in a company where management understands that is their responsibility.
