Sales and Profit: Chicken or the Egg?

Too many business people focus on the sales and profit they hope will come from innovation and invention.

If those are their "secret wishes" they are missing the point.

Sales and profit are the result of successful innovation and invention. Invent and innovate product that fulfills the secret wishes of others and sales and profit will follow.

  1. You do have to focus on creating value for someone else before you can expect to get paid . . . but it would be nice to be showered with money wouldn't it?

  2. I'm sad to say, we first talk about how much we'll sell before we talk about why someone will want to buy it. And often our dealers look at us like we're crazy. It's amazing how different what each of us think can be.

  3. I doubt it will be but if it is any consolation, that (talking about sales as opposed to what the customer will think, and differences between the thinking of the manufacturer and their dealers) is quite common.
