I believe the point is: learn from the past but try not to perpetuate it. In business, keep what has worked, dispose of what no longer does.

"A time to be born, a time to die."
ReplyDeleteA Bible quote incorporated into a great Byrds song that says all things must end.
I agree, don't perpetuate the past, you couldn't if you wanted to, but also don't expect to be successful forever. It's not going to happen.
And, when it comes to business, it would appear the time to die has accelerated.
ReplyDeleteAccording to 9.19 issue of The Economist, during the period 1956-81, an average of 24 firms came off the Fortune 500 list each year. During the period 1982-2006 that number has increased to 40.
That we all die, businesses included, is a known fact, but how long we live is not. I accept that but will do all possible to make sure my business ventures, and those of my clients, last as long as possible.
