Richard Kline

Possibly, but in preparation we gain control of some things that will otherwise be out of our control.

Yes?

  1. To answer your question, yes, I agree.

The real issue is, preparation for what? I consult and cannot think of a single client who contingency plans. All of them should.

  2. Our company stores 3 or 4, 5 gallon bottles of water in a storage closet, supposedly to keep 100 of us alive should a big earthquake happen.

That's the extent of our contingency planning, and I know for a fact there is no business "what if?" thinking going on at the highest level, because I am a part of that group.

  3. I have to admit, I gravitate towards what I want to do, which often isn't what I should do, including thinking about what I would do were things to go bad. I'm going to try to do better at that.

  4. Boy, can I relate to what CEO said.

There is no point in denying that we all have our strengths and weaknesses. We do more of what we like and do well.

So for most of us it is critical that we recognize our weaknesses, which are often the things we don't like to do, and make sure someone, if not us, has that covered.
