Vigilance: Staying Successful

"He is most free from danger, who, even when safe, is on his guard."

Publilius Syrus
1st century BC Roman writer/poet

Ironically, it is success that often sets one up for failure.

Companies doing well often lose the edge that made them successful.

Be watchful!

  3. "She made it!"

That's what we say when someone succeeds and I think there is an unsaid implication that they can then stop trying.

  4. i've often heard the term 'failing upwards' which describes a situation where someone is promoted to a position where s/he doesn't have the tools or skill set to be successful.

when you promote someone, it's always with the best of intentions and to recognize good/hard work but just because one was successful in position A, doesn't mean automatic success in position B. using a simple example, being a top notch accounting clerk doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to be a top notch accounting manager supervising people and processes.

  5. "Falling upwards" reminds me of the Peter Principle.
