For Sale: What've You Got?

"Everyone lives by selling something."

Robert Louis Stevenson

This is so true.

Most sales people get this but way too many accountants, finance, product development and even some marketers, do not.

Do you know what you sell?

Here's a hint.

It's not your company's product or service.

  1. I don't sell but I do assess the effectiveness of those who do.

  2. You don't sell?

What about when you need to "sell" the validity of your opinion to others?

  3. agree with you bill...people oftentimes relate 'sales' to customers so an easy way to remember that everyone has a sales role is to acknowledge that customers are both internal AND external.

an HR person at IBM may never interact with the customers that buy its products but s/he is certainly responsible for 'selling' to the employees the company's benefits, HR services, etc. and as in any vendor/customer relationship, that HR person has to ensure customer satisfaction and that it's products are competitive.
