Stepping Out From The Pack

"Obscurity brings safety."

Aesop
5th century BC Greek fabulist

Not always but more often than not I suppose it does.

Think about all the bosses that come and go while the workers that report to them hang on.

But are you prepared to spend your career just "hanging on"?

  1. Early in my career I was forced to work in jobs I didn't want, doing everything possible to not be one of those laid off (aerospace). But then it happened to me too.

Since then, I try to do what I think is best for me and the company I work for. I've been let go a couple of times in the last 20 years but in all cases I know I did what I thought was right.

My advice, don't just exist. It won't work.

  2. Obscurity does not make you safe. Sooner or later you will be found to be whatever is you really are so no point in trying to hide.
