NOT LUCKY ENOUGH?

"It is a great piece of skill to know how to guide your luck even while waiting for it."

Baltasar Gracian (1601-1658) Spanish philosopher/writer.

Buying lottery tickets is fine.

Buying lottery tickets as though your life depended on you winning is not.

Continue your education (no education should ever be considered complete), plan, work hard, and you'll be amazed how much luckier you are.

WHOSE RESPONSIBILITY ARE YOU?

"The mould of a man's fortune is in his own hands."

Francis Bacon (1561-1626) British statesman/philosopher.

You may not have had the best opportunities in life or what you see as luck enjoyed by others.

Too bad.

You have what you have, which includes whatever is left of your life; are you really willing to cast that aside, in effect to quit, because you believe you weren't given enough?

If so, really too bad.

LUCKY?

"Luck can be assisted. It is not all chance with the wise."

Baltasar Gracian (1601-1658) Spanish philosopher/writer

And those who "assist" themselves more will be luckier than those who don't.

YOU GOTTA EARN IT

"Luck is the idol of the idle."

Proverb

Fortunately, the harder you work the "luckier" you will become.

PREPARING TO WIN

"Diligence is the mother of good luck."

Benjamin Franklin
18th century American statesman, scientist and philosopher

You can win by being at the right place at the right time, but you won't often get there by chance.

A Fortunate One?

"Fortune truly only helps those who are of good judgement."

Euripides
5th century BC Greek poet

A not so subtle way of saying you make your fortune or luck.

More than not I believe this is true.

If you are "fortunate" you've probably earned it.

Rather Be Lucky Than Good?

"Substance is not enough, accident is also required."

Italian proverb

What role does luck play in your career?

The Art of Business

"Art . . . the end result of perception, wisdom, intelligence, discipline, hard work, passion, luck, accident, and coincidence."

Unknown

Strike "art" and we're talking business even though the more analytical among you, MBA's in particular (chill, I'm one too), would likely say there is no connection between the two.

Work Hard To Be Lucky

"Rise early, work hard, strike oil."

J. Paul Getty

This is Mr. Getty's prescription for success. In other words, never discount the importance of luck.

But it is the first two that increase the chances of the third ever happening. I would change "strike oil" or "luck" to "create opportunity".

Whatever it is you make or do, do you include attempting to create opportunity as part of your efforts?

Maybe you should.

Preparedness: Ready to Be Lucky?

"In the field of observation, chance favors only the prepared mind."

Louis Pasteur

I should think in any field actually.

When someone says she or he makes their luck, I believe it is more a case of being prepared to act (a "prepared mind") on whatever circumstance ("chance") presents itself.

Are you prepared? For what?
