I IMAGINE THAT . . .

"My life has been filled with terrible misfortune; most of which never happened."

More than in the past we do this regarding the future.

Be pessimistic if you must but if it prevents you from acting, you have a serious problem.

  1. Why do we focus more on the bad than the good? I know I do. Every once in awhile I am reminded that whatever my problems, they are not as bad as what happens to others. Still it's hard not to complain when s**t happens.

  2. One's tendency towards optimism or pessimism has to do with many things which make up their personality. And what that is can change as we age and experience life events. However during those times when I veer a little too much towards the negative, I find it helps to stop and reflect on what's positive. That doesn't make the negative go away and I'm certainly not suggesting we just put on a brave face. But every time I do that I see there is much more good than bad, and I feel better as a result.
