Don't Fence Me (Out)!

"Don't ever take a fence down until you know why it was put up."

Robert Frost
20th century American poet

Nor put one up without first understanding what you want to keep in or keep out.

Business is full of "fences" including official and unofficial, obvious and not.

Easy to erect, difficult to dismantle once up.

  1. the opposite of "burning bridges", right?

the older i get the more i realize how it is in my best interest to have as many friends as possible, or to at least keep my enemies to a minimum and close by where i can watch them.

  2. I made a lot of enemies when I was younger, and got "fenced out" as a result. As right as i was as often as I was, it still wasn't worth the price I paid in terms of not being part of the team.

And of course I see now I was not all that right, all that often.
