When Things Don't Go As You Would Like

"Kites rise against, not with, the wind."

John Neal
19th century American author

A poetic way to make the case for a certain amount of adversity in our lives.

Things will not always go the way we want and in that there is some good.

We just have to look for it.

  1. Reminds me of the "be careful what you wish for . . ." quote. What is and isn't adversity is not always immediately clear.

  2. You're right, that and clouds with silver linings.

There is true adversity versus what we think is adversity but really isn't.

Being able to distinguish between the two is a real management asset.

  3. if things never stopped working, would we ever try to make them better?

adversity is as much a good thing as bad. the only question is, what will you do when things don't go as you hope?
