Planning For The End

"Death is the shadow that always follows the body."

English Proverb

The morbidity of that statement notwithstanding, death is inevitable for all living things including companies and their activities.

To some degree most of us plan for our personal demise but do we enough in business?

Or is there some unspoken assumption that our business will live forever?

If so, is that a bad thing?

  1. Unspoken assumption or not, nothing is forever, including companies.

To answer your question, I don't know of any company that planned for going out of business, unless you count bankruptcy planning.

  2. I suggest focusing not on the death of your company but on its growth into something new. By definition, what was will then be "dead" but the new version will take its place.

It will happen regardless so you might as well control the process.
