I was the original hard charger, sacrificing my personal life for professional gain. It paid off if making a lot of money is the yardstick but it cost me my kids and wife in the process.
As with everything else, the goal is for the right mix of working hard versus not working hard enough and in my experience, what that is changes as circumstances change.
I am sorry if your hard work was the reason you lost your family and if so, that suggests you didn't get the right balance. But there are countless others who went the other way, playing more than working and that can be just as debilitating.
It's like tuning a guitar, too much one direction and the note is flat whereas too much the other and it's sharp. You've got to hit the sweet spot in the middle.
