Awakening Minds

"I am not a teacher but an awakener."

Robert Frost
20th century American poet

Mr. Frost created new thinking that never would have existed were it not for his poetry.

What do you think?

The essence of good management?

I hadn't thought of the purpose of poetry being to make us think things we might not otherwise do, but I see it being that now.

And that's a new thought for me isn't it?

Poetry or any form of literature can spark a new thought, new idea or a new goal, when introduced with emotion and passion, people tend to listen more intently and gain new meaning of the world around them. Teachers should be awakeners within the classroom or in a training session or in the home. Plant the idea and allow the student to travel the path of their own understand and imagination.

I wonder if there are now classes in high school or college that use poetry as a tool to teach students how to think? I had a number where we talked about the meaning of whatever we were reading, watching, or listening to, but none that took the next step teaching us to use that skill as a thinking tool.

I like that idea of using poetry as a tool - of using a creative art form as a way to get people to think in a more creative way. Nice!
