Knowledge Without Understanding . . . What's It Worth?

Isn't "knowing" the same as "understanding"? I think it is.

Well, there are times I think I "know" something when in fact I don't.

Maybe the best example is this. As my boys grew up I often "knew" what they did but didn't always "understand" why they did it; an admission my folks would find humous justice were they alive today.
