The Managerial Responsibility

"Jesting is often only indigence of intellect."

Jean de la  Bruyere
17th century French satirist

Not always but enough so to (hopefully) cause you to pause and think about what you say.

Particularly if you are in a position of power.

  1. Exactly!

Every time a manger jokes with, and even worse, about a subordinate, there is the danger of that person thinking or at least worrying that it is not a joke. This happens because they have something to lose.

Don't joke about anything that could be taken personal by someone who reports to you.
