Key Man

"There is no indispensable man."

Franklin D. Roosevelt
32nd president of the United States

While I've always known this to be true, I haven't always acted as thought I did.

My ego occasionally made me out to be more (to myself) than I actually was.

What about you?

  1. Congratulations for being so candid about yourself, few would do that privately not to mention publicly.

I too have thought of myself as indispensable and at the very least you challenge my belief in how often, if ever, that was true.

  2. I accept that no one is indispensable in business, at least not for long. But what about in our personal lives? Isn't the role of a mother and father exactly that?

  3. There are big differences between being indispensable in our business and personal lives, but as a "Big Brother" in the Big Brother/Big Sister program, I believe it depends on what the parent does or doesn't do. Unfortunately many kids are better off without a parent given what that parent does or does not do.

Unlike business managers, parents should be indispensable but sadly many are not.
