I Had Nothing To Do With It (Unless It Worked)

A tyrant's authority for crime and a fool's excuse for failure."

Ambrose Bierce
19th century American journalist/writer
It kind of is that isn't it?

When we have no explanation for our bad behavior or failures, we call it destiny, as if we had no control over the outcome.

Do you recall a time when you succeeded at something, saying "I had nothing to do with it, it was destiny"?

  1. All under the heading of personal responsibility.

I am an old(er) person and know I just may be selectively remembering, but it seems to me that people are much less willing to accept responsibility for their actions than they were when I was younger.

  2. Absolutely Anonymous. Just look at the increase in hit and run accidents, even against the police.

"It's not my fault" has become an all too common refrain.
