Which Side of Truth Are You On?

"I don't want yes men around me. I want everyone to tell me the truth, even if it costs him his job."

Samuel Goldwyn
Early 20th century American film producer (The "G" in MGM)

There are managers who think this way.

Are you one of them and if so, how's it working for you? It apparently worked for Mr. Goldwyn.

  1. My initial reaction was I don't want people to agree with me unless I'm right, but I'll have to think about whether or not I really practice that in terms of who I promote, raises, etc.

  2. I'm curious about what you conclude and hope you get back to us with another post. No doubt others will be as well.

  3. Not sure but I wouldn't be surprised if I did favor some people I liked and that I did because they agreed with me. Human nature.

  4. totally agree with you phil that it's human nature to gravitate towards people who think like you and agree with you.

but this is the hard part of management - being able to separate yourself from that and be open to other thoughts and viewpoints (especially if they differ from your own).
