The Habit of Good Management

"Nothing is stronger than habit."

Ovid
1st century BC Roman poet

Good and bad, what we habitually do drives our success and failure and personal habits soon become part of a company's culture.

Do you consider that when attempting to bring change to your organization?

  1. I do try to determine if we are doing what we believe will work because we have researched it as opposed to what we're comfortable doing. All too often, the suggestions I am given by staff are the latter.

  2. They don't call them habits for nothing.

But at least you're aware of what happens; it's the ones who aren't that are in real trouble.

  3. The fact that employees come to work with personal habits is not important to me unless they prevent the company from doing something important. When that happens I make it clear that the habit will be what changes, not the company.
