Who'll Be Wherever You Go?

"Followers are more important to leaders than leaders are to followers."

Particularly in business, even in tough economic times such as now.

While all bosses have employees, not all have followers.

Do you?

  1. I'm beginning to think I'm the odd man out in this blog, but . . .

I don't need followers, I have employees who know they need to do what I say if they want to keep their jobs.

Follow me? I could care less. Just do what I say, when I say it.

  2. So how does that work for you? Specifically, what's your employee turnover ratio and/or average length of tenure?

  3. Anonymous, would you also share what type of biz you're in? There are certainly some cases where the best tactical approach might be exactly what you suggest.

PS Don't worry about being the odd man out. If all posts agree then it's just too boring!

  4. The industry doesn't matter but we do small product manufacturing in a location with high unemployment.

They need me more than I need them.

Bill, you asked about turnover and length of tenure. I don't keep tabs on that but few quit given the lack of employment options. Maybe it won't always be that way and at some point I will need to be more concerned about what employees think, but not now.
