Tempered Argument

"If you go in for argument, take care of your temper. Your logic, if you have any, will take care of itself."

Joseph Farrell

Economics Professor

You may be able to suppress others you argue with but you can never win based only or mostly on anger.

  1. There are many things I have little control over, my temper, sadly, among them. And few do as much damage to both my business and personal life as does that one.

  2. Don't have control and no longer try to or don't and do?

  4. Not sure. I think I try to control myself but still end up occasionally going off on others I work with, both peers and direct reports. I'm 51 and don't expect to be able to change at this point.

I don't want to get into specifics but I have lost a job due to my temper; one the CEO said I was perfect for assuming I could control myself.

  5. Changing long-term behaviors and habits is difficult, but not impossible. I've never met anyone who didn't have some personality issues they would be better off without, including me.

51 is not too old to change; in fact it may be easier to do so now than when you were 31. At least now you not only know what should be different, but as well the consequences of not having made the necessary changes.

    Don't give up.

Thanks for sharing your story and good luck with the changes.
