ReplyDeleteThat's what we say when someone succeeds and I think there is an unsaid implication that they can then stop trying.
i've often heard the term 'failing upwards' which describes a situation where someone is promoted to a position where s/he doesn't have the tools or skill set to be successful.
ReplyDeletewhen you promote someone, it's always with the best of intentions and to recognize good/hard work but just because one was successful in position A, doesn't mean automatic success in position B. using a simple example, being a top notch accounting clerk doesn't necessarily mean that you're going to be a top notch accounting manager supervising people and processes.
"Falling upwards" reminds me of the Peter Principle.
