The Danger of Status Quo Management

"After living with their dysfunctional behavior for so many years (a sunk cost if there ever was one), people become invested in defending their dysfunctions rather than changing them."

Good to think of this the next time we decide to launch an impassioned defense of our beliefs.

  1. I don't know about it being dysfunctional but getting too comfortable with how things have been, can be a real problem.

  2. So much of a problem that I attempt to get my clients to institutionalize an expectation and time table for change. In other words, not only assume that change will be necessary but that it is desirable and should be pursued.

I would say that maybe only 20% actually do this, the remainder either fearing the unknown or believing that status quo is good enough.
