DID YOU KNOW . . . ?

"Most ignorance is invincible ignorance. We don't know because we don't want to know."

Aldous Huxley (1894-1963) British author

And I'll bet we usually don't know when we knowingly or otherwise choose not to know.

You know?

TOO MUCH OF TWO, NOT ENOUGH OF ONE

"Opinion is the medium between knowledge and ignorance."

Plato
4th century BC Greek philosopher

Of greater importance is that most people can't tell the difference, not for others and certainly not for themselves.

Forget others, just concentrate on you.

Assume more ignorance than knowledge, acting accordingly, and you'll often end with the reverse being true.

IT'S A MATTER OF CHOICE

"There's none so blind as they that won't see."

Jonathan Swift
Late 17th/early 18th century Irish-born English satirist

We (all too) often only understand what we choose to understand.

I HATE THAT

"Nothing can be loved or hated unless it is first known."

Leonardo da Vinci
Late 15th/early 16th century Italian painter/sculptor/architect

And still we love and hate so much while knowing so very little.

Not What Is, What Could Be!

"A sneer is the weapon of the weak."

James Russell Lowell
19th century American writer/editor

Most anyone can see what is wrong or missing with an idea, product, plan, program, etc.

In other words, what isn't.

But value comes from those who also see what is or could be, and then work to make that happen.

Beliefs: The Easy Truth

"It is easier to believe a lie one has heard a thousand times before, than it is to believe a fact that no one has heard before."

Author Unknown

For years I conducted research on behalf of clients. All too often, what they assumed to be true was readily accepted whereas what they did not expect, was rejected.

"Tell me what I know, not what I need to know.

Management Arrogance Versus Ignorance

"It is impossible to defeat an ignorant man in an argument."

William G. McAdoo
Early 20th Century American Statesman

Mr. McAdoo should know. He was both a lawyer and a US Senator, and was no doubt involved in many arguments.

As are most all of us in business.

So how can you be certain when you are dealing with ignorance versus someone who is right to your wrong?

What You Don't Know Won't Hurt You?

"It's what you learn after you know it all that counts."

John Wooden
Basketball Hall of Fame Coach and Player
10 national championships in 12 seasons as UCLA Head Coach

This quote is aimed at those who would miss the irony of the thought. The moment you realize you don't know it all, you've learned something valuable.

Understand?
