WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?

"Life is largely a matter of expectation."

Horace (BC 65-8) Latin lyric poet.

Since we often don't expect things will turn out good we don't work hard to make them so, and as a result, guess what?

Self-fulfilling prophecy, they don't.

However the reverse is true as well.

Put in the effort, work hard, and your expectations can be fulfilled.

I HOPE THIS FOR YOU

"The phoenix hope, can wing her way through the desert skies, and still defying fortune's spite; revive from ashes and rise."

Miguel de Cervantes (1547-1616) Spanish novelist/dramatist/poet

Relying solely on hope is every bit as bad as having no hope at all.

The sweet spot is finding balance between the two, along with having a plan to make true what you hope to happen.

MORE THAN EXPECTED

"The man who does more than he is paid for will soon be paid for more than he does."

Napoleon Hill
Late 19th/early 20th centuryAmerican speaker/motivational writer

Unfortunately, not always.

However, fortunately, often enough to make it still one of the best ways to get ahead of those who don't.

BUT WHAT HAVE YOU DONE?

"Applause waits on success."

Benjamin Franklin
18th century American statesman/scientist/philosopher

Meaning, accomplishment first, reward second.

WHAT DO YOU EXPECT?

"We tend to get what we expect."

Norman Vincent Peale
20th century Protestant preacher/author

If, as I do, you believe this is generally true, the next thing you should do is reexamine your expectations.

Expecting? What?

"We love to expect, and when expectation is either disappointment or gratified, we want to be expecting again."

Samuel Johnson
18th century British author

Anticipation is often better than having what is anticipated.

How do you use that to your advantage in business?

How do you deal with it when you can't?

All Things To No One

"The one who pleased everybody died before they were born."

Proverb

You can't only focus on yourself but it is a good place to start.

Do You Have the Right Time?

"Last week is the time you should have bought or sold, depending on what you didn't do."

Anonymous

It does feel as though we often end up on the wrong end of timing, doesn't it?

Or is it that our expectations are too often wrong?

Managing Self-Worth: Can You, Should You?

"We all are something, but none of us are everything."

Blaise Pascal
17th century French Mathematician/Physicist

Self-worth is critical; without enough of it the individual's ability to contribute to what will ultimately be the accomplishments of the group, is limited.

But too much of it, which sometimes leads to the belief that one's contribution is more important than that coming from others, can be worse.

Do you attempt to manage self-worth among your direct reports?

Do you for yourself?
