Management: The Trade-Off Between Youth and Experience

"Forty is the old age of youth, 50 the youth of old age."

Victor Hugo

19th century French poet/novelist

And what about now?

At least in business today, a time when many older workers want and need to continue to work, I'm betting (too many) feel these numbers should be 35 and 45.

What do you think?

  1. There is a tendency to stereotype age; younger more energy, older more experience, and as far as generalities go, that's not far from the truth.

But you don't hire generalities, you hire people. Look at each one for what they are; individuals.

  2. Carolyn's right. Just as you shouldn't judge a book by its cover, or a person by their gender, ethnicity, looks, etc., nor should you by their age.

But of all those, we probably do more stereotyping based on age than any other.

    What a waste.
