(OCCASIONALLY) FEELING (JUST A LITTLE) SORRY FOR YOURSELF IS OK

"My general attitude to life is to enjoy every minute of every day. I never do anything with a feeling of, 'Oh God, I've got to do this today.'"

Richard Branson, English businessman/investor

Never?

I'd like to believe Sir Richard on this but I don't.

If I did he would be like no human being I've ever known.

There are plenty of things we all must do we really, really don't want to do.

Allow yourself a quiet, brief pity party as you do yours, you've earned it.

But do make it brief.

D. H. Lawrence (1885-1930) English writer

CAN YOU?

"The will to do springs from the knowledge that we can do."

James Allen (1864-1912) British-born American essayist

Do you think you can?

If not the knowledge, at the very least the beginning of your own belief that you can.

If You Can't Trust You . . .

"The easiest person to deceive is one's own self."

Edward G. Bulwer-Lytton
19th century British politician, poet, critic

And we don't always know when we do either.

Just as it is a good idea to continually review your business plan assumptions, updating them as necessary, so too should you review what you assume to be true about you.

There is fact and fiction in all of it.

As I See Things

"If the doors of perception were cleansed, everything would appear to man as it is.  For man has closed himself up till he sees things thru chinks in his cavern."

William Blake
18th century British poet/painter

How much of what you see would you guess is as it is as opposed to how you choose or would like to see it?

What Is Your Self-Image?

"You have to believe in yourself."

Sun Tzu
5th century BC Chinese general/author

He says this meaning you should as opposed to you are compelled to do so.

Wouldn't it be great if both were true?

Whom Do You Trust?

"Doubt whom you will but never yourself."

Christine Bovee

Author

To the best of my recollection, I've never posted a quote I didn't at least in part agree with . . . until now.

This comes under the heading of "feel good, love yourself" and while at its core, I understand and agree with the basic message, taken literally, never doubting yourself, never questioning your own views, is the antithesis of good management.

Now, with that disclaimer, leaders must also have tremendous confidence in their own ability.

How do you balance the two?
