NOT GETTING ENOUGH ATTENTION ARE YOU?

"I envy paranoids; they actually feel people are paying attention to them."

Susan Sontag (1933-2004) American author.

Actually it's not a matter of getting enough attention is it?

It's about getting the people we want to pay us the attention we want when we want it.

All other people and all other times, leave us alone.

Things just don't work that way.

DID YOU NOTICE HOW KNOWLEDGEABLE I AM?

"Knowledge is in the end based on acknowledgement."

Ludwig Wittgenstein (1889-1951) Austrian-British philosopher

SELF-ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

"It is another's fault if he be ungrateful, but it is mine if I do not give. To find one thankful man, I will oblige a great many that are not so."

Seneca
4th century BC Roman philosopher/playwright

It is easy to be offended when we do something right, not acknowledged.

Much harder not to be.

Take your reward from having done the good thing, even when the only recognition for having done so comes from you.

The Most Important Honor Of All

"Dignity exists not in possessing honors, but in the consciousness that we deserve them."

Aristotle
4th century BC Greek philosopher

All your titles, degrees, promotions, and other assorted accolades, don't mean a thing without the freely given recognition that you deserve them coming from those who don't have to give it.

Will They Remember You?

"Fame is a constant effort."

Jules Renard
19th century French writer

Yes and no.

It is if you intend to stay famous, no if you don't.

And it's no different in business.

Work hard to achieve recognition for your business.

Work even harder to keep it.

Achievement First, Recognition Second

"Applause waits on success."
Benjamin Franklin
18th century American statesman

Succeed first, be recognized for what you've done second.

There are not nearly as many shortcuts as there are those who look for them.
