THIS IS NO DREAM!

"If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with success unexpected in common hours."

Henry David Thoreau, 19th century American philosopher/poet.

"Common hours" is 19th century code for awake time spent not dreaming the dreams of things you'd like to be, things you'd like to accomplish.

You have them. You may not acknowledge you do but you do have them.

Make them happen.

DREAM, PLAN, ACT!

"Man is a genius when he is dreaming."

Akira Kurosawa, 20th century Japanese film maker.

Kurosawa-san was right describing our dreams, both those while we sleep and those awake, as an indication of human genius.

However, a dream not realized is only a dream.

To actually be genius we must evolve what we dream to reality.

Dream, plan, act!

DREAM, PLAN, EXECUTE

"Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment."

Buddha, 5th century BC (approximate) founder of Buddhism

Far be it from me to correct Buddha, but maybe he wouldn't mind a small suggested edit.

Do not only dream of the future, also plan for what you wish it to be.

Some planning, even the most basic, will serve you well.

SATISFYING DREAMS

"I dreamed a thousand new paths. I woke and walked my old one."

Chinese proverb

For many reasons this must mostly be true.

But not always.

("In the early morning hours of May 7, 1965, in a Clearwater, Florida, motel room, a bleary-eyed Keith Richards awoke, grabbed a tape recorder and laid down one of the greatest pop hooks of all time: The opening riff of "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction." He then promptly fell back to sleep." History Channel)

And don't forget, you don't only dream when asleep.

Is There A Rational Manager?

"Everyone believes very easily what they fear or desire."

Jean de la Fontaine
17th century French poet

So much in business is about what we fear or hope will happen.

How rational then is our decision making?

From Dreams To Reality

"The dream was always running ahead of me.  To catch up with it, to live for a moment with it in unison, that was the miracle."

Anais Nin
20th century French/Cuban author

This should be the goal for all of us, both in our personal and professional lives.

Too much dream, not enough reality, and nothing gets done.

And the reverse is too boring to contemplate.

Ms. Nin is new to me and now that I've discovered her and like what she has to say, I will look for more of her works.

And the fact that we share a birthday is an added plus.  Us dreamer Pisces must stick together.

Big and Small: Balancing the Best of Both

"Most people would succeed in small things if they were not troubled with great ambitions."

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
Poet

We need both small and big dreams but the big ones can get in the way of living the small ones, while too much of the small leaves little time to aspire for more.

Whether in personal or business matters, how best to find the right balance?

Goals: What Do You Desire?

"One must desire something to be alive."

Margaret Deland
Early 20th century writer

On an individual level, desire what we dream. In our business lives, our goals.

What do you desire?
