THIS REALLY AFFECTED ME

"Little things affect little minds."

Benjamin Disraeli (1804-1881) British politician/author.

We're all occasionally subject to small mindedness so don't take this too personal.

However do think about it the next time you find yourself fretting over something you shouldn't.

Good Management: But Only To A Point

"Everyone rises to their level of incompetence."

Dr. Laurence J. Peter
Professor of Management/Author

For those too young to know, this comes from the 1969 book, "The Peter Principle".

The assertion; that all work is accomplished by those who have not yet (but ultimately will) rise to a position they are incompetent to hold.

The book was meant to be a humours assessment of our limits in business, but when you think about it . . .

How far can you go?

Competence: Are There Limits?

"In a hierarchy every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence ... in time every post tends to be occupied by an employee who is incompetent to carry out its duties ... Work is accomplished by those employees who have not yet reached their level of incompetence."

Laurence J Peter
Educator/Author ("The Peter Principle")

This quote comes from "The Peter Principle", a 1968 book that I believe still resonates today.

Do we have upper bounds beyond which we cannot go no matter what we do to improve ourselves? Before you answer, understand that Dr. Peter did not say how the incompetence occurs; only that it happens.

In some cases, one's incompetence is self-induced.
