DON'T OVERLOOK THE OBVIOUS

"Your big opportunity may be right where you are now."

Napoleon Hill (1883-1970) American speaker/motivational writer.

Be ever aware of the possibility of advancement, understanding it may be where you are, not where you think you should be.

WHAT YOU DO FOR OTHERS, NOT JUST WHAT YOU DO

"One lives in the world's memory only by what they have done in the world's behalf."

Proverb

In your business career as well.

You are paid for what you do to benefit others, not simply for what you do.

THAT'S JUST GREAT!

"No great man ever complains of want of opportunity."

Ralph Waldo Emerson
19th century U.S. poet/essayist/lecturer

Nor do they complain about not having good luck, or having too much bad luck.

Averages Are Made Up Of Differences

"The worst form of inequality is to try to make unequal things equal."

Aristotle

Think Small To Get Big

"Big jobs usually go to men who prove their ability to outgrow small ones."

Ralph Waldo Emerson
19th century American poet

Advice to those just beginning your careers.

Don't shy away from the jobs you think are beneath you're ability.

Quickly get on with them, do them faster and better than most would expect, and if there is an advancement path for you to be on, you will be moved up.

And if there isn't, you will soon see that is the case and can go elsewhere.

Stepping Out From The Pack

"Obscurity brings safety."

Aesop
5th century BC Greek fabulist

Not always but more often than not I suppose it does.

Think about all the bosses that come and go while the workers that report to them hang on.

But are you prepared to spend your career just "hanging on"?
