"He who does not think much of himself is much more esteemed than he imagines."
Johann Wolfgang Von Goethe
18th century German poet
Some of the world's most successful business leaders are also egotists beyond anything the rest of us ever imagined.
Does success create that or are some of us naturally born to like ourselves more than will most?
Does not "thinking much of ourselves" necessarily imply we depreciate our worth?
funny you should post this. i've been thinking about the woman i work for and how egotistical she is, or at least i think she is. but now you've got me thinking that maybe it's just that i don't like her, that she's not as egotistical as i thought.
ReplyDeleteYou bring up a good point Ron. What is our motive for labeling someone egotistical, or any other adjective you can think of, good or bad? And was the label earned or did we just use it because it was convenient to do so to help us with our real agenda?
ReplyDeleteYou may well not like your boss and see her as egotistical, which she could be. Or not. You might call her that even though she has low self-respect and no ego at all, doing so just because you don't like her voice, weight, direct connection to others in the company who are important to you, etc., often things not politically correct that you can't admit to.
It is good that you are examining not just her but your motives as well.
