"The difference between a job and a career is the difference between 40 and 60 hours a week."
Robert Frost
While there is more to it than that, the implication of the thought is clear.
(And while not critical to the point, the fact that this observation comes from a poet, surprised me.)
Are you working only/as many hours a week as you would like?

When you're self-employed, and have a few side projects going, the answer to that question changes every week.
ReplyDeleteI thought I was pursuing a "career" and worked a lot of hours accordingly, only to find out my employer looked at me like I was doing a "job".
ReplyDeleteThat's happened to me before as well. Working a lot of hours does not guarantee you will get ahead, anymore than not doing so guarantees you won't. It's some sort of mix of quality and quantity in the right organization
